Afghanistan: Nato troops kill 10 insurgents in Kandahar

Afghan and NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) forces killed 10 Taliban insurgents in Taliban birthplace Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan, the military alliance said in a press release Wednesday.

“Afghan and coalition forces killed 10 Taliban insurgents in Kandahar province Tuesday while in pursuit of a Taliban commander responsible for weapons deliveries,” the press release said.

The press release said that when the joint security forces approached the targeted compound in Zanabad village of Panjwai district a group of militants ran from the building in multiple directions and opened fire. In retaliation, the security forces returned fire, killing 10 insurgents, it added.

Somalia: Dozens killed in Mogadishu in fights between al-Shabaab and African Union and in Puntland between Atom’s fighters and governative forces

Massive explosions have ripped through the al-Shabaab group’s largest headquarters in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, leaving 25 dead and 30 injured.

The simultaneous blasts hit the base in the southern sector of the city on Friday, a senior al-Shabaab official told Press TV on condition of anonymity.

Shortly after the explosions, heavy clashes broke out between the fighters and African Union (AU) troops.

Separately, at least 22 people have been killed during fresh clashes between local fighters linked to al-Shabaab and government forces in the semi-autonomous Somali region of Puntland.

Fighting erupted on Friday, in the mountainous region of Galagala, between fighters loyal to local militant leader Sheikh Mohamed Said Atom and Puntland government forces.

Another 40, most of them soldiers, were also wounded.

Georgia complains to Unite Nations of Russian ceasefire breach

Georgia sent a statement to the UN on Friday accusing Russia of violating ceasefire agreements.

“Two years after the Agreement on the Cessation of Hostilities was signed on August 12, 2008, Russia still ignores this agreement and continues to violate almost all of its provisions,” the statement said.

“Russian troops have occupied territories beyond the conflict area,” it added.

Somaliland: Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC) commander rebel group, reveals split in his group in two sides, SSC and Badbaado

A rebel group operating in Somaliland’s southern region of Buuhoodle is said to have disintegrated after the group failed to resolve internal rift among its senior leaders.

The SSC group, abbreviation for the disputed –Sool, Sanaag and Cayn regions who threatened to launch a violent campaign against Somaliland several months ago is reportedly have defied their own leadership.

The group’s main commander, Kayse Abdi Yusuf, issued a press statement on Tuesday insisting he has formed his own rebel wing and is no longer following orders from senior rebel leadership.

Dagestan: Four militants killed by russian police

Russian Police have killed four militants in the volatile North Caucasus region of Dagestan, a local police representative said on Friday.

The militants opened fire at police officers after their car was stopped for document checks late on Thursday in the Dagestani Khasavyurt district. They were killed in retaliatory fire.

“Four people were killed in return fire,” the spokesman said, adding that their identities would soon be established.
