Kosovo: Sultanate of Oman recognizes officially Kosovo independence

The Sultanate of Oman became the 75th country to recognize Kosovo’s independence on Friday by forging diplomatic relations with the government in Prishtina.

The Republic of Kosovo has established diplomatic relations with the Sultanate of Oman”, Kosovo’s deputy foreign minister Vlora Citaku, told reporters.

Russia: Doku Umarov, most wanted chechen terrorist of islamic extremist group Caucasus Mujahideens, claimed responsibility for Domodedovo airport bombing

Russia’s most wanted terrorist, Doku Umarov, has claimed he was the mastermind behind January’s bombing at Domodedovo Airport, which took the lives of 36 people and injured more than 180.

Umarov made the claims in a video message posted on an extremist website. In an earlier video message Umarov warned of more terrorist acts to follow, saying that Russia is in for a year “of blood and tears.” Umarov backs the idea of independent Muslim state in the North Caucasus that would include Chechnya, Dagestan, Ingushetia and some neighboring regions.

Sudan: Sudan president accepted South Sudan secession after results of referendum

With the announcement of final voting results, President Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan said Monday that his government would accept the choice of the long-embattled region of southern Sudan to separate from the north, setting the stage for the creation of the world’s newest country this summer.

According to the final count, announced in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, 98.83 percent of the more than 3.8 million registered voters in southern Sudan chose to separate from the north. In many parts of the country the vote was over 99 percent.

Cambodia: Thai army shelled and destroyed part of Cambodia’s Preah Vihear temple

Cambodia’s military told the Press and Quick Reaction Unit (PRU) of the Office of the Council of Ministers on Sunday that Thai army resumed heavy shelling on Cambodia’s troops around 6:40 p.m.

“A wing of our Preah Vihear Temple has collapsed as a direct result of the Thai artillery bombardment,” said a Cambodian military commander based near the 900-year-old Temple.

About 22,000 Pakistani villagers have fled a military operation in a tribal region near the Afghan border, with Islamist militants and soldiers killed and wounded in the fighting, officials said yesterday.

The offensive, involving aerial bombing, artillery and ground troops, began on 27 January in Mohmand district, said Roshan Khan Mehsud, a regional government representative.
