Five militants, including a militant leader, were eliminated in two separate shootouts in Russia’s volatile North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, the Russian National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) said on Wednesday.
The NAC said four militants fired at local law enforcement officers from a car at about 01:00 a.m. Moscow time on Wednesday near the village of Achisu after a squad of policemen asked them to stop.
“Policemen returned fire to the militants and all the gunmen were eliminated,” the NAC said.
Another shootout occurred at 10:45 p.m. Moscow time on Tuesday in the republic’s city of Kaspiiskk, the NAC said, adding that the leader of a local militant group Rustam Radzhabov was killed in the operation.
According to the NAC, Radzhabov, 25, offered an armed resistance to the police officers, killing one and wounding other two in the exchange of fire.
