Peru: Shining Path attacked a military base killing two soldiers in Apurimac river valley

Two soldiers have been killed and two others injured following an attack on a military base in Peru’s coca growing Apurimac and Ene river valleys, or VRAE, daily La Republica reported.

The attack occurred against the Mantario Union military base by remnants of the Shining Path insurgency. The group used long range weapons to fire on the base and then fled into the jungle, the report said.

Libya: Libyan troops kill 8 rebels near eastern oil town of Brega

Government forces in trucks disguised with rebel flags shelled opposition positions Tuesday near the strategic eastern oil town of Brega, killing eight rebel fighters and wounding dozens more, officials said.

In an audio message directed at a rally of thousands in the town of al-Aziziya, south of Tripoli, embattled ruler Moammar Gadhafi emphasized the importance of Libya’s vast oil wealth to his regime, and called the civil war a battle “for our way of life.”

Iran: Fighting between Iran army and kurdish rebels of Partiya Jiyana Azad a Kurdistanê (PJAK) or Party of Free Life of Kurdistan

Fighting has flared between Iranian forces and the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), which denied Iran’s claims that it sustained heavy casualties in attacks on one of its camps.

Iranian state media reported that the Revolutionary Guards had taken control of a PJAK rebel camp “near the Iraqi border” and killed, injured or captured dozens of PJAK fighters in the fight.

Yemen: Fighting erupts in Zinjibar in Abyan province between army backed by hundreds of tribesmen against anti-government tribal forces and islamic militants

Fighting flared in Yemen’s volatile south Saturday, as security forces — backed by armed tribesmen — battled Islamic militants in the region, eyewitnesses said.

Hundreds of tribesmen joined the fight in the town of Zinjibar, vowing to stand strong until Islamic militants leave Abyan province.

“We will not stop until the terrorists leave the province. We will fight and have nothing to lose,” said Masood Mansoor, one of the fighters. “This land is ours and we will not allow it to be a safe haven from outlaws.”

Libya: Rebels suffer heavy casualties in battle for Brega

The battle for the Libyan oil town of Brega continued on Sunday as rebels clashed with Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s troops.

The AFP news agency reported that fighting had moved from the desert on Brega’s outskirts to the streets in the centre.

Medics at Benghazi Hospital said 12 people died in Saturday’s fighting and as many as 200 were injured. There were no immediate reports on casualties from Sunday’s clashes.
