Somalia: Clashes erupted in Mogadishu between army backed by African Union troops against al-Shabaab militants
Heavy fighting between Somali government soldiers backing by AU troops and al-Shabaab militants took place overnight in parts of Somalia capital, Mogadishu, TFG official said on Thursday.
Omar Ja’fan, the district commissioner of Huriwa for TFG told Shabelle Media in an interview that Fighting and heavy artillery shelling between Somali government forces backed by African Union peacekeepers and al-Shabaab fighters erupted in many parts of his district in capital city of Mogadishu.
Witnesses said, the battle erupted overnight in Huriwa district, after heavy armed militants of al-Shabaab launched an ambush offensive on several military bases for AMISOM and Somali government soldiers in area, causing unrevealed or mentioned casualties on both warring sides in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
