Five militants and two members of an elite police force were killed in operations in southern Kazakhstan, prosecutors said Sunday, amid concerns about rising Islamist unrest in the Central Asian state.
The clash took place during a special operation against suspected militants in a village just outside Kazakhstan`s largest city and former capital of Almaty, where prosecutors said they had been planning attacks.

The Sudanese army claimed a strategic victory on Saturday in its war against the rebels in South Kordofan, saying it captured camps on a key supply route in the southern border region after deadly clashes.
“Today the Sudanese army took control of SPLA camps in the Lake Jau area. The fighting took place at around 4:30 pm (1330 GMT). There were a number of casualties and injured soldiers on both sides,” army spokesman Sawarmi Khaled Saad told AFP.
“This is a strategic area because it is a gateway to the south. The SPLA receive their weapons and ammunition and supplies through it,” he added.

Separatists Friday blew up a major installation of India’s premier oil exploration firm Oil India Limited (OIL) in Assam, triggering a massive fire leaping up to more than 100 metres.
The blast took place at the oil collection station (OCS) at Tipling, close to the OIL headquarters at Duliajan in Dibrugarh district, about 550 km east of Guwahati, officials said.
The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

At least five civilians were killed in Thursday morning governmental attacks in Taiz province. All the casualties are civilians and medics in Taiz said that death toll is expected to rise.
Medics in Taiz Freedom Square told Yemen Post that four of the injured are in critical condition as he expected the casualty toll to increase.
The attacks were the first major shelling in Taiz since President Saleh signed a power transfer deal that grants him immunity in return for stepping down from power.

The security agencies of Somali Transitional Federal government of Somalia said on Wednesday that a number of al-Shabaab defectors surrendered to government.
Ahmed Mo’alin Fiqi,the director of the TFG security agency told reporters in Mogadishu that eleven young al-Shabaab fighters who defected from the group in the past 24-hours have surrendered them selves to the government.
Fiqi said that two of the defectors were sent to make suicide attacks in Mogadishu, but they repented from those bad actions and joined the government of Somalia.
