Somalia: 4 killed and 7 wounded in a battle between Kenyan army and al-Shabaab fighters in Gedo region
More than four people were confirmed to have been killed and seven others wounded in a heavy battle between Kenyan army and al-Shabaab fighters in Gedo region of southwestern Somalia, reports said on Tuesday.
Reports from the battlefield said, the combat began after al-Shabaab militants targeted an explosion on Kenyan military convoy traveling on a road in El-adde area leading to Garbaharay town, the capital city of Gedo region near Somalia’s border with Kenya.
Witnesses at the conflict zone (El-adde) have indicated that the blast followed a fierce fighting between Kenyan troops and al-Shabaab lasted for hours and hindered the movement of the local people and public transportation, raising fear among locals.
All casualties were reported to be sides, Kenyan army and al-Shabaab insurgents. It is one of the fiercest clashes in the region for weeks.
