Somalia: Ethiopia will withdraw troops from Somalia by end of April
Ethiopia, which has deployed hundreds of troops in Somalia to fight Islamist insurgents, will withdraw them by the end of April, the African Union said Friday.
Since Ethiopian troops crossed the border in November, they have captured Beledweyne and Baidoa from the al-Shabaab rebels.
Ethiopian officials, mindful of the war that mired their troops in Somalia from 2006 to 2009, have said the incursion would be brief.
The Africa Union said the Ethiopians would be replaced by troops from Djibouti, Uganda and Burundi.
