Ethiopia: Ethiopian forces destroy three Eritrean military camps

The Ethiopian defense forces attacked military targets 18 KMs inside Eritrea, which it says targeted “hit and run terrorist and subversive groups trained the Eritrean government, armed and deployed”.

The attack took place this morning (March 15, 2012) and targeted the group which recently attacked, killed and abducted European tourists in the Afar region of Ethiopia, according to press statement from the Ethiopian government Communications Affairs Office.

Syria: Syrian troops take control of north-western city of Idlib

Syrian government forces have taken control of the north-western city of Idlib, after days of clashes with rebel fighters, opposition activists say.

Security forces are now reportedly carrying out house-to-house searches in the area, which has been a stronghold of the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

It is not clear where the rebels have gone, or how many people have died.

Somalia: Talks betwen Khaatumo State, Transitional Federal Governmen (TFG) and Somaliland

The VOA Somali Service reported that the office of the Somali prime minster has reversed the Transitional Federal Governmen’s (TFG) decision to recognise Khaatumo State.

Upon returning to Mogadishu yesterday the prime minister, Dr Abdiweli Ali, declined to comment on the recognition or non-recognition of Khaatumo State of Somalia formed nearly two months ago after politicians and traditional leaders and convened in the Taalex district.

Syria: Opposition speaks on new massacre in Homs

The “Al Arabiya” TV channel on Monday quoted the coordinating committees of the Syrian revolt as saying that a “massacre” was committed again Sunday evening in Homs by the forces loyal to the Syrian regime.

At least 50 people were slaughtered in their homes in the neighborhood of Karm El-Zeitoune.

Other sources noted that the regime’s forces have slaughtered 45 people (20 women and 25 children).

Somalia: Ethiopia will withdraw troops from Somalia by end of April

Ethiopia, which has deployed hundreds of troops in Somalia to fight Islamist insurgents, will withdraw them by the end of April, the African Union said Friday.

Since Ethiopian troops crossed the border in November, they have captured Beledweyne and Baidoa from the al-Shabaab rebels.
