Officials said Iraqi forces have arrested 11 alleged Al-Qaeda members in connection with the recent deadly attacks in the southern city of Basra.
The city’s police chief, Faisal al-Abadi, said at a news conference that Iraqi forces have “penetrated and dismantled Al-Qaeda in the south.”

Fighting between Sudan and South Sudan has spread to a new town along the border, amid fears the countries will slide into full-scale war.
Forces from both sides engaged in intense clashes from Tuesday night into Wednesday near the town of Meiram.
The area is located inside Sudan’s Southern Kordofan state, near the border with the South Sudanese state of Northern Bahr al-Ghazal.

Syrian security forces are carrying out deadly attacks on opposition-held areas in the north and south and continuing to bombard Homs, activists say.
Some opposition groups report that more than 50 people have been killed over the course of the day.
The violence came as envoy Kofi Annan travelled to Qatar to brief the Arab League on the peace plan he negotiated.

At least nine people have been killed and several others wounded following fierce fighting between Transitional Federal Government (TFG) forces with the support of Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) and Ras-Kamboni militias against the al-Shabaab insurgent group late Saturday at Hayo village between Qooqani and Afmadow, according TFG officials.
Fighting is reported to have lasted several hours after TFG military forces attacked al-Shabaab bases in Hayo village of Lower Juba region, according to the Ras-Kamboni officials. TFG officials confirmed to Somalia Report that they attacked an al-Shabaab base in Hayo village
