Ugandahas deployed an additional 1700 troops in volatile Somalia, bringing the total number of Ugandan peacekeepers in the Horn of African country to 8000, a military spokesman said here on Monday.
Col. Felix Kulayigye, spokesman of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces, told Xinhua by telephone that the troops will stay in the Somali capital Mogadishu as their colleagues advance deep into hostile territory.

A teenage suicide bomber targeted police in Bajaur on Friday, killing at least 20 people and wounding dozens in the tribal area near the Afghan border, officials said.
The bomber, who intelligence officials said was aged 14 to 16, detonated explosives strapped to his chest in Khar, the main town of Bajaur district.

At least 12 people were killed in twin blasts in Makhachkala, the capital of Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan, a spokesman for the republic’s interior ministry said on Friday.
“Twelve people died - three civilians, three rescuers, the remaining [victims] are police officers. Casualty reports are still being verified,” the spokesman said.

A series of Kachin Independence Army (KIA) bombings derailed nine railroad sleeper carriages and damaged railroad tracks over the past two days, state-run media reported on Wednesday.
The Monday explosion occurred at a location 2.4 kilometers from Hsahmaw Railway Station on Monday, said the New Light of Myanmar.
The incident follows an attack on the same railroad on Sunday, in which several sleeping carriages of an express train were derailed by a mine blast at a location between Nantsiaung and Mawhan railway station near Moenyin Township, injuring two people including a monk.

Afghan and coalition security forces detained two Taliban leaders following joint military operations in Kandahar and Ghazni provinces of Afghanitan.
According to a statement released by International Security Assistance Force, Afghan and coalition security force detained a Taliban leader during an operation in Panjwa’i district, Kandahar province. The leader directed roadside bombings and other attacks against Afghan and coalition security forces throughout the district. During the operation, the security force detained multiple insurgents and confiscated bomb making materials.
