The Somaliland military have seized a strategic territory near the Somalia border following an offensive against an outlawed separatist rebel on Saturday.
The fighting erupted in the early hours of Saturday in the small but strategic town of Tukaraq in Sool region, some 30 kilometers south of the provincial capital Las Anod.
Eyewitnesses in Tukaraq said they heard heavy gunfire from the fighting but there were no casualties on both sides. They confirmed that Somaliland forces were in control of the town and that the militia loyal to Khaatumo State separatist group had fled.

Yemen’s army early on Friday retook control of the coastal town of Shuqra in the southern Abyan province, to where Al-Qaida militants sheltered after the fall of their last strongholds the capital Zinjibar and the strategic city of Jaar few days ago, military sources said.
The forces launched fierce battles against the remaining militants in Shuqra amid widespread operations targeting them in Abyan and nearby provinces of Shabwa and Hadramout.

The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) declared that it has killed more than 50 Ethiopian soldiers in a recent attack on the Ethiopian army station in the region, reported VOA.
The front’s Foreign Communication Committee member and head of Ethiopia desk, Mr. Hassen Abdulahi told VOA that the Ethiopian Defence Forces have massacred 18 peaceful Ethiopian Somalis and wounded 15 others in the May 27 attack.
ONLF launched the attack as retaliation to the May 27, 2012 attack perpetrated by the Ethiopian Armed Forces at peaceful Somalis at a place called Deboch Hiriso.

Bombings and shootings targeting Shiite Muslim pilgrims in Baghdad and police across Iraq killed at least 53 people on Wednesday in apparently coordinated attacks during a major religious festival.
The attacks are the deadliest to hit Iraq since 50 people were killed in Baghdad on March 20.

The Armed forces and the popular committees cleansed Tuesday completely the towns of Zinjibar and Jaar, Khanfar palace and Rahowah area in Abyan province, an official source in the defense ministry said.
The road Aden-Abyan has been opened for citizens, the source said.
