Syria: Rebels and regime forces clash in Aleppo

Syrian rebels took their fight to the northern city of Aleppo on Wednesday, burning a police station and capturing pro-regime forces in an effort to wrest control from government forces, opposition and rebel groups said.

Rebels took control of a police station, according to footage streamed live by the Free Syrian Army on Wednesday. The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said rebels burned a police station, though it wasn’t clear if it was the same one.

Darfur: Sudan Armed Forces repulse and kill 50 rebels of Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) in East Darfur

The spokesman of the Armed Forces, Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad, announced that the Armed Forces repulsed remnants of the forces of the rebel Justice and Equality Movement at Karkada and Um-Shuwaika areas in East Darfur State.

Col. Al-Sawarmi said that the forces of the Justice and Equality have escaped and as a retaliatory act they attacked Tabon area by different weapons.

Syria: Rebels try to take control of Aleppo from the army

Fierce fighting is taking place in Syria’s second city, Aleppo, say reports, as rebel fighters try to take control from the army.

Pro-government troops are bombarding the city with shells and rocket fire, and there are reports that helicopter gunships are being used.

Iraq: Wave of shooting and bombing attacks kill 90 people and wounds 64

Officials say a wave of shooting and bombing attacks in Baghdad and north of the Iraqi capital have killed around 90 people and wounded scores of others.

The attacks included strikes at a military base near the town of Dhuluiyah and in the city of Taji.

Bombings and shooting attacks also occurred in Saadiyah, Khan Beni Saad, Kirkuk, Tuz Khurmatu, and Dibis, all north of the capital.

Syria: Violence continues in country’s main cities

Violent clashes continued on Sunday in neighborhoods of Aleppo and Damascus, Syria’s two main cities, as Syrian government forces fought to regain control over areas that rebels claimed to have seized in recent days.

Activists reported heavy street battles for a third day in several Aleppo neighborhoods, where urban warfare erupted for the first time this week. One video posted on YouTube, which could not be confirmed independently, showed heavy black smoke spiraling out of one quarter, while a rebel commander on another video said the battle to free the northern city of government soldiers had begun in earnest.
