The Burma Army has been launching a military operation against the Shan State Army (SSA) ‘South’ in the Loi Ye mountain range, Namzang township since Monday, 30 July, according to SSA sources.
Since then at least 3 clashes have taken place between the attacking forces and the SSA’s Gawn Zerng Column.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has renewed its pledge to send troops to Mali to help the government recapture the north from Islamist groups.
ECOWAS Commission President Kadré Désiré Ouédraogo said the regional bloc is ready to deploy its standby force to Mali once the country’s interim government makes the request.
The pledge came in a statement welcoming last week’s return of Mali’s interim President Dioncounda Traore, who went abroad for medical treatment after being beaten by anti-government protesters.

Syrian rebels stepped up an offensive against government troops Thursday, using a captured tank to bomb a military air base in the commercial capital Aleppo as regime forces in the capital, Damascus, unleashed new raids against them.
President Bashar al-Assad’s troops retaliated in Aleppo by pounding the strategic Salaheddine district with tank and artillery fire as rebels tried to consolidate their hold on areas they have seized.

Yemeni officials say Al-Qaida militants launched an attack on a security headquarters in a southern town the group controlled until recently, gunning down four soldiers.
Officials say Wednesday’s dawn attack took place in Jaar, which the military recaptured from al-Qaeda in June.

Five Burmese soldiers have been killed and several others were injured from a Kachin Independence Army (KIA) bomb attack in Bankawng Mu, on July 24. The village, which is located between Myitkyina and Bhamo (or Manmaw), is patrolled by both KIA and government forces.
According to a Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) officer in Laiza, KIA Battalion 24 used a bomb to attack Burmese Battalion 142 in Bankawng Mu.
