Rebels seized control of a border crossing on the frontier with Turkey on Wednesday, pulling down the Syrian flag and briefly allowing people _ some jubilant, some wounded _ to crawl under a barbed wire barrier between the countries.
Turkish authorities quickly closed the area and police prevented the crowd from trying to storm the border and cross into Syria.
“I am a free Syrian!” shouted Zisha Bargash, throwing his hands in the air, as he watched the takeover from the Turkish side. “This is the beginning of the end Assad. Game over.”

In what appeared to be a major victory against the Boko Haram sect, the Joint Military Task Force confirmed, yesterday, that the sect’s spokesman, Abu Qaqa, has been killed, while two other members were arrested after a shootout between the sect and security operatives.
There were, however, different accounts on how the encounter took place.
According to one account, quoting an official of the task force, the shooting occurred yesterday morning in Mariri, a town southeast of Kano, where soldiers stopped a vehicle with the sect spokesman, the commander, the spokesman’s wife and their children, the official said.

Seven Turkish soldiers were killed and 63 others were wounded on Tuesday when a Turkish military convoy was hit and came under fire in a road ambush by PKK terrorists in the eastern province of Bingol.

Officials in Somali government says the national army allied with the African Union forces seized several strategic positions that had been under the control of the al-Shabaab for the past three years.
Mohamed Farah, the spokesman of Somali forces in Jubba regions, told Shabelle Media by phone that the allied forces took full control of the last al-Shabaab pockets located on the outskirts of west of the port town of Kismayo during armed confrontations over the last two days.

Three Yemeni soldiers of the Central Security were killed and several others were wounded in a blast that targeted a commander of the Central Security in Al-Mukala of Hadhramout governorate on Sunday, local sources affirmed.
The sources said that violent clashes between soldiers of the Central Security and unknown armed men followed the explosion, pointing out that the situations are still intense, particularly around a military of the Central Security in Al-Mukla.
