Sudan: Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) rebels claim to have downed 1 warplane

Sudanese rebels said Thursday that they ambushed a military patrol, killing 10 soldiers, and shot down a government warplane after its bombs killed two civilians in an embattled southern region.

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North said in a statement that the Antonov bomber was downed Wednesday by rebels in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan state.

Burma-Myanmar: 1 army major and 7 soldiers killed during recent clashes with Kachin Independence Army (KIA)

A major from government armed forces and seven soldiers under his command were killed on Monday following clashes with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) at Dung Waw in Northern Shan State, according to one front line KIA commander.

KIA Lance Corporal Tsin-yu La San and a young civilian was fatally wounded the night before, according to Lt. Zau Seng, a commander with the KIA affiliated militia People’s army. For the last two-days, there has been heavy fighting between a government battalion and the KIA in the area.

Somaliland: Army clashed with Khaatumo rebels in Hudun

Fierce clashes broke out on Monday between Somaliland troops and separatist rebels in Sool’s Hudun district, about 60 kilometres north of the main Las Anod town. It is believed several hundred rebels have been stationed in Hudun since June 2010.

Reports in the area said troops repelled an attack by the rebel Khaatumo early Monday, inflicting “heavy” casualties. They added the clash lasted less than an hour and the troops, who were in full control, conducting searches in the area.

Syria: Car bomb in Hama kills 50 pro-regime fighters and air strike kill 20 rebels

Scores of Syrian soldiers have been killed by a suicide car bomb in the central province of Hama and at least 20 rebel fighters were killed in an air strike in the northwest province of Idlib, activists have said.

Monday’s clashes came as the main Syrian opposition, the Syrian National Council (SNC), in makeover talks in Qatar, agreed to expand its structure to accommodate 13 other groups, a spokesman said.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab fighters attack with mortars Kismayo port

Residents say al-Shabaab fighters launched Sunday night a mortar attack against ships docked the port of Kismayo city, where is largely controlled by Somali and Kenya forces along with the pro-government Raskamboni fighters.

The attack happened late last night as ships reportedly carrying weapons for the Kenyan AMISOM army in Kismayo trying to dock at the harbor, with some reports the attack caused uncounted loss of life and property in the port.
