Syria: Al-Nusra Front rebels seize key army base in Aleppo
Syrian rebels, led by the radical Al-Nusra Front, seized a strategic army base in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo on Monday after weeks of fierce fighting, a watchdog said.

Syrian rebels, led by the radical Al-Nusra Front, seized a strategic army base in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo on Monday after weeks of fierce fighting, a watchdog said.
Somali government troops backed by African Union (AU) forces, captured the city of Jowhar 90 KMs northwest of Mogadishu, after a brief clash with al-Shabaab fighters, Garowe Online reports.
The allied forces attacked the agriculture-rich district of Jowhar the administrative capital of Middle Shabelle region, which was an al-Shabaab stronghold.
AMISOM spokesman confirmed that on Sunday morning allied forces had a brief battle with the al-Shabaab fighters in Jowhar who later retreated from the city for “strategic reasons”.
Intense fighting between rebels and syrian government forces are going on in south of Maarat al Numaan, in Idlib provincce, along highway between Damascus and Aleppo, according ong National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria.
Fights are going on in an area near military base of Wadi al Deif.
Government troops launched an attack on the KIA (Kachin Independence Army) with military helicopters. The attack was carried out in Pannwar Township in the eastern region of Kachin State, according to KIA spokesperson U Lah Nan.
“Yesterday (Dec.4), 7 government helicopters came. Among them 5 helicopters were carrying the weapons, rations, soldiers and food. They carried the soldiers who were injured on their return. Another 2 helicopters were looking for KIA battalions. They shot 2 rounds at KIA positions,” he said.
Syrian rebels have declared Damascus International Airport to be a military target, warning airlines and civilians to avoid the area. Clashes around the airport have intensified recently, disrupting work at the hub.
“The rebel brigades who have been putting the airport under siege decided yesterday that the airport is a fair target,” rebel spokesperson Nabil al-Amir of the Damascus Military Council said on Friday.
