Pakistan: 20 militants killed and 14 injured in air attack by security forces

Twenty militants were killed and 14 wounded in a security forces’ strike in Khyber Agency early Friday morning.

The offensive took place in Teerah Valley when jet planes bombarded the militants hideout as a result 20 militants were killed and 14 wounded. Security forces also destroyed five hideouts of the militants.

Puntland: 3 terrorists killed as Puntland forces repel al-Shabaab attack near Galgala Mountains

Puntland government forces repelled an attack by al-Shabaab terrorist group overnight Thursday Jan. 3, 2013, where government forces killed 3 al-Shabaab/al-Qaeda terrorists and wounded 5 other attackers.

The attack occurred around 10:30pm at a location approximately 40km southwest of Bossaso, where Puntland government forces manning a remote outpost near the Galgala Mountains successfully repelled the attack and chased the fleeing attackers into the mountains.

Syria: Fighting for control of Taftanaz military airport in Idlib province

Rebels have stormed parts of Taftanaz military airport in Syria’s northwest Idlib province, but state media reported on Thursday that the fighters had been repelled by troops.

A rebel speaking from near the Taftanaz base overnight said the base’s main sections were still in loyalist hands but fighters had managed to infiltrate and destroy a helicopter and a warplane on the ground.

Central African Republic: Seleka rebels agree to peace talks

Rebels in the Central African Republic said yesterday they were suspending their advance and would hold peace talks with the government, after regional armies sent reinforcements to stop them reaching the capital.

The Seleka rebel coalition’s lightning three-week advance from the north of the country to within striking distance of the capital Bangui in the south has raised fears of a spreading crisis and drawn regional calls for negotiations with the government in the Gabonese capital Libreville.

Burma-Myanmar: Army is continuing ground offensive against Kachin Independence Army (KIA)

Burmese government forces on Wednesday continued their ground offensive against the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) near the village of Nam Sang Yawng in Kachin State while supported by two fighter jets and two helicopter gunships, said Maj. Min Htay, the information officer of the All Burma Students Democratic Front (ABSDF) Northern Branch.

“Hostilities broke out this morning [Wednesday] when the Burmese army launched an assault from the direction of Nam Sang Yawng,” he said. “The fighting started at about 8 am. Then at 11:30, the aircraft attacked. Later, two helicopter gunships came and fired on us.”
