France’s defence minister has said that French troops are involved in “very violent fighting” in the mountains of northern Mali and that it is too early to talk about a quick pullout from the West African country, despite the growing cost of the intervention.
The fighting against rebels in the Adrar des Ifoghas mountains has been going on for days.

Palestinian terrorists broke a three month ceasefire on Tuesday and fired a rocket from Gaza into southern Israel. The rocket fell on a road south of Ashkelon causing some damage to a road, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said.
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades took responsibility for the attack, Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported. The terrorists fired a Grad rocket in response to the “liquidation” of the prisoner Jaradat, Ma’an reported.

M23 military chief Col Sultani Makenga
At least eight people have been killed in the first clashes between rival factions of the M23 rebel group in DR Congo, sources have told the BBC.
The violence was linked to a power-struggle between M23 political leader Jean-Marie Runiga and military chief Sultani Makenga, the sources said.
On Sunday, regional leaders signed a UN-brokered accord to end conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

60 people were killed and 83 wounded following the resumption of clashes that started last month between two tribes in North Darfur.
The official SUNA confirmed reports about the renewed fighting saying an armed group of Al-Rezeigat Abballa assaulted a group of Beni Hussein displaced in El Sereaf, North Darfur following January clashes in Jebel Amir over the control of gold mines.

Troops from Chad have killed 65 Islamic extremist rebels and destroyed five vehicles in fierce fighting in northern Mali, the country’s military said.
Thirteen Chadian soldiers were killed and six wounded in the fighting in the Adrar des Ifoghas mountains of north-eastern Mali, the army said in a statement on state broadcasters.
