Free Syria Army fighters in Saraqeb
Syria’s main opposition group agreed to set up a transitional government seeking recognition as the legitimate alternative to President Bashar Assad’s rule, as rebels said they seized control of a nuclear research center.
The Syrian National Coalition will name a premier for the new administration within 10 days, Haitham El-Maleh, a leading member of the group, said in a phone interview. He didn’t give further details.

The government is condemning the shooting deaths of 8 soldiers by unidentified groups in Papua in the bloodiest attack on security forces in two years.
“These were irresponsible acts committed by the perpetrators amid the government’s intense efforts to accelerate development in Papua and to improve the welfare of Papuans,” Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto said at a press conference at his office on Thursday.

Two almost simultaneous explosions killed at least 12 people in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad after Thursday evening’s rush hour. It was the first major bomb attack in India since the 2011 Mumbai bombing that left 26 dead.

At least 31 people have been killed in a car bombing near the headquarters of the ruling Baath party in Syria’s capital, opposition activists said.
The UK-based group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said most of the dead were civilians, but members of the Syrian security services were also killed in the Damascus attack.
Witnesses and opposition activists said the explosion targeted a security checkpoint in the central Mazraa neighbourhood.

21 Taliban were killed in a clash by Afghan Security Forces.
Interior ministry press office said BNA, the Afghan Security Forces in the last 24 hours conducted 9 operations in the relevant area of Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Zabul, Urozgan, Maidan-Wardak, Logar, Herat and Helmand provinces as a result of which 21 Taliban were killed, 5 wounded and 21 others arrested.
