A new bout of fighting erupted on Monday in a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the latest indication of a sharp deterioration in relations between the important US allies.
Pakistan is seen as vital in bringing stability to Afghanistan as most Western forces prepare to withdraw by the end of next year.
The United States and other powers involved in Afghanistan have been trying to promote cooperation between the Asian neighbours, who have a history of mistrust.

Soldiers of the SSLA/M
The leadership of South Sudan Liberation Army, South Sudan Democratic Army and South Sudan Defense Forces has declared peace with the government of South Sudan starting from April, 26, 2013. All the rebels will start interacting with the SPLA army without any confrontation to bring peace to our country. We have ordered all rebel forces to move to the areas controlled by the SPLA to achieve peace.
Today, 5,000 forces of SSLA have moved to Mayom County as part of the ongoing peace process President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for since January, 2013. On April, 24, President Kiir issued amnesty to all rebels to facilitate peace in our country. As a result of that, the South Sudan rebel groups declared that they would move to areas under the control of the SPLA army.

A Syrian official called an attack Sunday on the nation’s military research facility a “declaration of war” by Israel.
In an exclusive interview with CNN hours after a series of massive explosions illuminated the predawn sky in Damascus, Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al Mekdad said the attack represented an alliance between Islamic terrorists and Israel.

Snipers from the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) and the KNLA (Karen National Liberation Army) practice together on the firing range
In east Burma’s Karen State, hundreds of civilians have fled from their homes as fighting continues between the rebel Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) and a government-backed militia, the Karen Border Guard Force (BGF).
The displaced families have left villages near the town of Myaing Gyi Ngu, a former stronghold base of the DKBA where government troops have reportedly been dispatched to curb tensions between the two rival militias.

Israeli officials confirmed Saturday that the Israeli Air Force carried out a strike against Syria that targeted a shipment of advanced missiles.
The officials said the shipment was not of chemical arms, but of “game changing” weapons bound for the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group. They say the airstrike was early Friday. They did not say where it took place.
