After three weeks of fighting between Assad’s troops backed by Hezbollah fighters and Syrian rebels, the strategic town of Qusair, located along Lebanese border, was taken control of by Syrian Army on Wednesday, said Syrian state TV.
Syria’s Sana state news agency declared that “heroic armed forces have returned security and stability to all of the town”, quoted the BBC.
“The Syrian army totally controls the Qusayr region in Homs province after killing a large number of terrorists and capturing others,” said the state TV, using the term of terrorists for rebels.

Malian troops were preparing Tuesday to re-take a key regional capital occupied by Tuareg separatist rebels who have refused to allow the entry of the country’s army or government ahead of nationwide elections.
Troops have been mobilised in four “battle groups” to enter the northern city of Kidal and “close in around” the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA), an armed group formed by separatists from the country’s Tuareg minority, army spokesman Souleymane Maiga told AFP.
The move came after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the house of an MNLA commander in Kidal, the scene of a number of attacks since it was occupied by Islamist militants and then the MNLA after a miliary coup last year.

Corsican separatists, who claimed responsibility for dozens of attacks last year, on Tuesday warned of fresh violence as France’s interior minister toured the crime-prone island.
“We will take up arms again so that France recognizes our national rights,” the Corsican National Liberation Front (FNLC) said in a statement, denouncing Paris for supporting a centralized republic.
But after vowing “zero tolerance” for mafia groups, Interior Minister Manuel Valls said: “We will not let ourselves be browbeaten by threats.”

According to officials, 6 Taliban militants were killed in a twin air-attack by ISAF choppers on Sunday morning in Zurmat district of Paktia.
A press release by Afghan National Army press office in Gardez says two groups of Taliban militants who were involved in destructive operations came under ISAF air attacks where 6 militants were killed.
The statement added that these militants were also suspected to be members of Haqqani Network.

Maoist rebels yesterday shot dead a senior paramilitary officer in a fresh gun battle just one week after they killed 24 people, including Congress politicians, in an ambush.
Security forces have been engaged in a long-running and bloody conflict with the outlawed Maoists in central India.
“When a police party was on a combing operation (looking for rebels), Maoists sprayed bullets on them,” police inspector general Ashok Juneja said.
