The Sudanese army on Wednesday said it had repulsed an attack by the rebel Revolutionary Front in Al-Sidra area in North Kordofan state, official SUNA news agency reported.
“The remnants of the so-called Revolutionary Front this morning launched a heinous attack against Al-Sidra village in North Kordofan state with the aim to rob citizens of their money,” the agency quoted Al-Sawarmy Khalid Saad, the Sudanese army spokesman, as saying.

Al-Qaeda has claimed responsibility for coordinated attacks on two Iraqi prisons that freed hundreds of inmates, including some believed to be senior members of the militant group’s leadership.
An online statement posted on July 23 by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant — the merged al-Qaeda affiliates in Iraq and Syria — said it had carried out the missions after months of preparations.

Colombia’s rebel group FARC killed at least 17 soldiers in combat in the northeast of the country, said the army Saturday. Fourteen others were reported missing.
The fighting took place on the border of Fortul and Tame, two municipalities in the troubled Arauca department where the FARC and fellow-rebel group ELN have strong presence.

Fighting raged on Sunday close to Aleppo international airport and nearby air bases as the battle for Syria’s second city entered its second year, a monitoring group said.
“Fierce clashes broke out at dawn near Aleppo international airport and Nairab air base,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, also reporting fighting in the Suleiman Halabi district of the city.
