Philippines: 8 suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels killed in a clash with security forces in Sorsogon

Eight suspected New People’s Army rebels, including two females, were killed following a clash with government security forces in Sorsogon province early Thursday morning, a military spokesperson said.

Around 6 a.m., elements of the Army’s 31st Infantry Battalion engaged an undetermined number of insurgents in Barangay Upper Calmayon in Juban town, said military information chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala.

Pakistan: Armed militants stormed a checkpoint killing 6 paramilitary policemen in Peshawar

Dozens of heavily armed militants stormed a checkpoint in a northwestern Pakistani village overnight, killing at least six paramilitary police and wounding seven others, officials said Wednesday.

The attack took place at Jina Kor, 40 kilometres (25 miles) southeast of Peshawar and close to the tribal area of Darra Adam Khel, where Taliban militants are active.

India: More than 50 maoist rebels kill 4 policemen in Jharkhand

A group of more than 50 Maoist guerrillas in eastern India ambushed a police patrol on Tuesday, killing the district police chief and three other officers, officials said.

The rebels opened fire on vehicles carrying police superintendent Amarjeet Balihar in Dumka district in Jharkhand, an impoverished and densely forested state home to a large Maoist movement.

Burma-Myanmar: Burma army and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) battle for second straight day in Shan State

Units from the Burma Army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) continued to clash Thursday morning, as fighting in the Pangsai (Kyukok) area of northern Shan state carried over for the second straight day.

The fighting broke out at 9 am local time near Seng Htu Hkyet (Jang Hpang Kawng) in the same area where clashes took place yesterday, said Zau Seng, a commander from the Pangsai-based 5th Section unit of the Mungshawa Hpyen Hpung (MHH or People’s Army in Kachin), a militia affiliated with the KIA’s civilian wing the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO). The MHH are a civilian force made up of local Kachin volunteers who frequently fight alongside regular KIA forces.
