Burma-Myanmar: Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF) refused to sign ceasefire agreement

The Palaung State Liberation Front (PSLF) leaders refused to sign a state-level ceasefire during the July 31 meeting with the government’s Union Peace-making Working Committee (UPWC) in northern Shan state.

Since then, government forces have been bolstering their presence near PSLF-affiliated towns like Kutkai, Nankhan and Namtu. PSLF Chairman Tar Aik Bone said this latest move is a pressure tactic to force them to sign a ceasefire.

Syria: Troops kill more than 60 al-Nusra Front rebels in an ambush

Syrian government forces killed more than 60 rebels Wednesday in an ambush near Damascus, a blow to opposition fighters confronting a regime offensive in the capital, activists said.

The state news agency SANA confirmed the ambush near the Damascus suburb of Adra at dawn, saying “dozens” were killed. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 62 rebels died. It did not report any government casualties.

Somalia: Clashes between allied forces and al-Shabaab in different parts of Somalia

Fighting’s occurred at different regions in Somalia between AMISOM troops,Ethiopian troops and SNA troops against al-Shabaab fighters.

In Baidoa, al-Shabaab troops attacked government troops which forced the SNA troops to retaliate.

Burma-Myanmar: All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) rebels signed preliminary ceasefire with government

After more than two decades of fighting, the All-Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) signed a preliminary ceasefire deal with government peace negotiators in Rangoon on Monday.

During a meeting at the Myanmar Peace Centre (MPC) in Burma’s commercial capital, the two sides signed a four-point deal that will allow the group’s members to travel unarmed through government-controlled territories and establish a liaison office in Karen state’s Myawaddy.

Syria: Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant rebels take control of a key Aleppo air base

Rebels fighting to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have captured a key air base in the northern province of Aleppo after a months-long battle, a monitoring group reported Tuesday.

“The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (jihadist group) and other opposition groups took total control at dawn today of Minnigh air base,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
