India has accused Pakistani troops of killing five Indian soldiers after firing across the Line of Control, the de facto border in disputed Kashmir. Pakistan any firing from its side, and calls the allegation “baseless.”
This latest incident comes amid attempts to renew diplomatic overtures for peace between the two nuclear-armed rivals.

At least 35 people have been killed in two separate gun battles between Nigerian security forces and Islamist sect Boko Haram in northeast Borno state, the army said on Monday.
Boko Haram, which wants to impose sharia law in Nigeria’s north, and other spin-off Islamist groups have become the biggest threat to stability in Africa’s top oil exporter.

It is reported that fighters loyal to Sheikh Abu Mukhtar Abuu Zubeyr clashed with fighters loyal to Sheikh Mukhtar Abu Mansur.

A Syrian warplane has struck targets near the border with Lebanon, killing at least nine people and wounding nine others, Lebanon’s state-run news agency said.
A Lebanese security official in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa region confirmed Saturday’s airstrike, adding that those killed included six members of the same family.

The Tunisian army launched a “huge” land and air operation against Islamist militants hiding in remote mountains near the Algerian border, the armed forces spokesman announced on Friday, AFP reported.
“A huge operation, with ground and air units, was launched at dawn,” he told Mosaique FM radio.
