Government forces in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have captured Bunagana town, the main base of the M23 rebel group, officials say.
The troops entered the town on the Ugandan border in large numbers as the rebels fled, residents told the BBC.
M23 political leader Bertrand Bisimwa was earlier reported to have crossed into Uganda as Congolese troops advanced on his base.

The army in the Democratic Republic of Congo, backed by UN forces, has forced M23 rebels to retreat to their mountain holdout near the eastern border with Uganda, the rebels said Tuesday.
After 36 hours of silence, the rebel Movement of March 23 (M23) published a statement on its website to say that the withdrawal was “in no way a sign of weakness”, but a tactical retreat to Bunagana, the base of its political leaders.

Another battle yesterday in Kachin State’s Mann Si Township between government troops and the Kachin Independence Army is making life more perilous for the thousands of families trapped by the conflict, a KIA officer told Mizzima.
Vice Major Joon Aung, commander of KIA Battalion (3), said that another clash erupted at 9:00 A.M. near Namt Lin Par village in the township in Ba-Maw District as three battalions of government troops totaling 300 soldiers advanced in the area.

Israel strikes in response to 2 rockets fired at southern Israel from Gaza, one of which Iron Dome intercepts over Ashkelon; comes day after mortar fire from Gaza hits South and coincides with Palestinian prisoner release.
The Israel Air Force struck two underground rocket launchers in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday morning in response to earlier rocket fire on the Ashkelon region.
Palestinian sources reported that the IAF strike targeted a site belonging to Hamas’s al-Qassam Brigades terrorist group.

A wave of car bombs has killed at least 52 people and left dozens injured across Iraq.
The deadliest attack on October 27 killed 14 people outside a bank in the northern city of Mosul as soldiers queued to collect their salaries.
Iraqi officials said nine blasts killed at least 30 people and injured 90 others in predominantly Shi’ite areas in and around Baghdad.
