Syrian rebels recaptured a base near the international airport in the northern city of Aleppo in a counteroffensive against the army.
The fighting on Saturday came as the main Western-backed opposition group was to begin a two-day meeting in Istanbul.
The group had to decide whether they will attend a proposed peace conference the US and Russia are trying to convene in Geneva, news.com.au reports.

A government official says that about 20 armed Islamic extremists attacked a prison in northern Somalia in an attempt to free prisoners.
An official in the semi-autonomous region of Puntland said on Saturday that prison guards repelled the attack on Friday night in which two guards were wounded.

Fighting continues to rage in KIA’s 12th Battalion area despite recent talks between armed ethnic organizations and Burmese government delegation.
KIA’s 12th Battalion troops fought against about 100 Burmese army troops under Theinni-based 16th Military Operations Command (MOC-16) between Mahkaw Yang and Nam Hpu village on Nov 7.

The Syrian Army units on Thursday regained full control over the towns of al-Sbeineh al-Kubra, al-Sbeineh al-Sughra and Ghazal in Damascus Countryside province, having got rid of the terrorists’ last gatherings in these towns, SANA reported.
Other areas had been brought under the army’s control during the past month including al-Husseiniyeh, al-Zyabiyeh and al-Bweida.

Two CRPF personnel were killed when militants attacked a patrol party on Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Thursday, police sources said.
The attack took place outside Pandav park near Awantipora, 32kms from here, this evening, the sources said.
