Nigeria: Boko Haram fighters attack Air Force base and airport in Maiduguri
Boko Haram fighters on Monday launched what locals describe as fierce and simultaneous attacks on an air force base and international airport in Maiduguri, the capital of the northeastern Borno State, killing and injuring an as-yet-undetermined number of people.
The 7th Army Division responded with heavy gunfire and air attacks that killed “several Boko Haram fighters,” according to Maiduguri resident Musa Ishaqu.
“The Boko Haram sect attacked the Composite Group Air Force base in the Gomari area as well as the airport,” he told Anadolu Agency over the phone.
The base is close to Gomari Airport in Maiduguri.
