The UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) Thursday confirmed attacks on rebels who reportedly killed at least 42 civilians in the eastern province of North Kivu.
In a statement, the UN mission MONUSCO said its helicopters raided the Ugandan rebels ADF-NALU Wednesday and regained control of the positions seized by rebels, who were linked to the killing of 42 civilians in the village of Kamango bordering Uganda, Xinhua reported.

The Syrian troops on Sunday killed as many as 73 rebels in separate clashes nationwide, the state-media reported, as opposition activists claimed that aerial bombing on rebel-held areas in Aleppo killed 471 people over the past week.
The official SANA news agency said the Syrian troops killed 30 “terrorists” from the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and other jihadist groups during a series of “qualitative” operations in two areas of the rebel-held Douma suburb, east of the capital Damascus.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has claimed the deadly attacks on a TV complex in Tikrit, north of Baghdad, in which a news anchor and four other people died.
ISIS claimed responsibility for Monday’s assaults on Al-Iraqiya state TV and Salaheddin TV in a statement posted to jihadist websites.

The government of South Sudan said on its Twitter feed on Friday that it “agreed in principle to a ceasefire to begin immediately, but our forces are prepared to defend themselves if attacked.”
It came after a meeting of East African leaders in Nairobi on Friday, who urged South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar to meet face-to-face and try to resolve their differences.
