The Congolese government signed a peace deal on Thursday with the M23 rebels it had been fighting until they laid down their arms last month, ending weeks of wrangling over the terms of an agreement.
The deal apparently concludes the most serious rebellion in Congo in a decade but analysts say the region remains fragile, not least because the agreement does not address the status of other armed groups.

Uganda troops have captured 19 Lord’s Resistance Army rebels in Central African Republic (CAR), the African Union said, a sizeable victory in the hunt for the elusive rebel group.
The Ugandan army is leading a US-backed African Union force tasked with capturing the LRA’s leaders, several of whom are wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

French forces have killed 19 Islamist fighters during security operations in Mali’s northern region of Timbuktu, according to a senior French officer in the West African nation..
Pockets of al Qaeda-linked fighters are still holding out across the north of the country, nearly a year into a French offensive aimed at driving them from the desert region they occupied for most of 2012 after hijacking a rebellion by Tuareg separatists.

Philippine officials have signed a power-sharing accord with the country’s largest Muslim rebel group and expect to sign a final peace pact with the insurgents next month to end a decadeslong rebellion in the volatile south.
The accord, which outlines the powers of a Muslim autonomous government in a region to be called Bangsamoro, was signed Sunday by negotiators for the government and the 11,000-strong Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Malaysia, which has been brokering the talks, officials said Monday.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says nine people, including civilians, military and a police officer, died in an attack on a police post that’s being blamed on rebels.
Santos says 23 civilians, 12 police and three troops were wounded in the attack in the community of Inza in Cauca department. He has offered a reward worth about $26,000 for information for leading to the capture of those responsible.
