Boko Haram fighters on Monday launched what locals describe as fierce and simultaneous attacks on an air force base and international airport in Maiduguri, the capital of the northeastern Borno State, killing and injuring an as-yet-undetermined number of people.
The 7th Army Division responded with heavy gunfire and air attacks that killed “several Boko Haram fighters,” according to Maiduguri resident Musa Ishaqu.

Fighting between Shi’ite Houthi rebels and Sunni Salafis in northern Yemen has killed more than 120 and a government official in charge of enforcing a ceasefire accused the Houthis of breaking the truce, a newspaper said on Sunday.
The latest round of fighting between the Houthis and Salafis has added to the challenges facing US allied Yemen, already grappling with a southern separatist movement and an insurgency by Islamist militants linked to al-Qaeda.

More than 10 people were killed and at least 20 others wounded after heavy fight erupted in Taleh district of Sool region, the base of the newly declared state of Khatumo, RBC Radio reports.
The battle broke out on Thursday after Puntland Vice President Abdisamad Ali Shire reached the town with heavy armored vehicle that led to heavy gun fire with Khatumo forces based in Taleh.

Separatist Tuareg rebels said on Friday they were ending a five-month-old ceasefire with Mali’s government and taking up arms following violence in the northern city of Kidal.
The declaration came a day after Malian troops clashed with stone-throwing protesters who blocked a visit by the prime minister to the city, a northern rebel stronghold.
