Afghanistan: ISAF soldier killed by a group of militants in Kandahar base attack
A group of militants attacked an ISAF base in Zheri district of southern Kandahar province Monday, in which nine militants and a coalition soldier were killed, officials said.
Haji Jamal Agha, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents mounted attack on the ISAF base at around 11:00am. All the nine militants were killed by the ISAF forces.
Confirming the attack, an ISAF statement said: “We can confirm that enemy forces attacked an ISAF base in southern Afghanistan today. As a result, one ISAF service member was killed. All other ISAF personnel are accounted for.”
Javed Faisal, governor’s spokesman, said all the nine attackers had been killed but had no further details.
The 205th Atal Military Corps commander, Gen. Abdul Hamid Hamid, confirmed the blast, adding the attackers came in two vehicles.
