The two Koreas exchanged artillery fire across the western maritime border on Monday after the North staged a live-fire drill that sent artillery shells into southern waters and prompted the evacuation of South Korean islanders.
The North fired about 500 rounds of artillery shells into waters north of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the Yellow Sea from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said.

Two members of Yemen’s auxiliary Popular Resistance Committees were killed in an overnight ambush by presumed al-Qaeda members in the south, a member of the pro-government militia said on Sunday.
He said the men were gunned down on the road between Loder and Moudia northeast of Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province.

Officials say Chadian soldiers killed more than 30 civilians in Central African Republic’s strife-torn capital city.
Jean-Pierre Sadou, a gendarmerie official with the regional peacekeeping force, could not confirm the death toll from Saturday’s violence but said the Chadian soldiers’ actions were a “legitimate defense” after their convoy was attacked by grenades.

The Syrian authorities released 500 rebels who recently surrendered themselves to the army on Saturday in the country’s southern province of Daraa, as part of the government’s reconciliation efforts, the official SANA news agency reported.
The 500 rebels were released in the town of Sanamain in Daraa, SANA said, adding that the release process took place with the presence of Grand Mufti Ahmad Hassoun who urged them to support their government in order to end the “terrorism” in Syria.

After a period of relative calm in Kachin and northern Shan State, fighting resumes on Monday in KIA-controlled area in northern Shan State.
A series of battles took place between KIA’s 34th Battalion troops and an unknown Burmese army column at Man Yan and Man Hkang area in Momeik Township, northern Shan State on Monday at 7:50 am and once again at 1 pm.
