Syrian rebels in the northern city of Aleppo are waging fierce clashes against government forces in an attempt to prevent opposition neighborhoods from falling under siege.
Government forces have gradually been retaking ground in and around Aleppo for months and now appear poised to cut off rebel-held parts of the city if rebels are not successful in stopping their advance.

An U.N.-backed offensive by Democratic Republic of Congo troops has destroyed the bases of an Ugandan Islamist group in the country’s east and should crush the rebels in the next few days, an army spokesman said on Monday.
The Congolese army has been fighting the ADF-NALU militia since December following rebel attacks against civilians in the eastern province of North Kivu.

Burmese army soldiers under Hmawbi-based 77th Light Infantry Division (LID) on Sunday seized another Kachin Independence Army’s (KIA) frontline post in northern Shan State. A high ranking KIA official said about 100 government’s 77th LID soldiers attacked and seized Loi Hkam Bum Post in Namtu Township currently guarded by Section 1 of the Kachin People Militia (MHH in Kachin) troops under KIA’s 34th Battalion at around 8:15 am.
At least three Burmese army soldiers died in the battle that lasted for about 30 minutes. The KIA officer said no casualties on KIA’s side but its troops had to evacuate from Loi Hkam Bum Post because of the Burmese army’s advance. It is the fifth position in a row that KIA has lost in five weeks since January 31.

Some 52 militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) have been killed in an ambush in Ramadi, the capital of the western province of Anbar, an anti-terror official said Monday.
Abu BAkr al-Anbari, a senior leader of the dreaded group, was one of those killed in the ambush, the official told Anadolu Agency, requesting anonymity.

Security and military officials in Yemen say clashes between troops and Shiite rebels have killed seven people in the country’s north.
Officials say fighting erupted Friday and killed two soldiers and five rebels. They say the clashes began when Hawthi gunmen attacked a military checkpoint in the northern province of al-Jawf.
