Sudan: Armed forces recapture Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) rebel headquarters in Nuba mountains
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Tuesday the liberation of the town of Abri, SPLM-N’s base and HQ at Kualeeb ranges in Nuba Mountains (South Kordofan). The recapture of the town comes as part of the “decisive summer operations” to end insurgency in the area.
SAF spokesperson, Al Sawarmi Khalid Saad, in statement said the town of Abri derives its importance from the fact that it is a link between the Kuwaleeb Mountains and Kauda, the rebel stronghold.
He said the army inflicted heavy losses on the rebels in lives and equipment and also liberated the village of Sarafaya in the same area where citizens were deprived of basic services and forced to join insurgency.
