Egypt: 4 islamist militants killed in a military operation in North Sinai

Egyptian army forces killed four Islamist militants and arrested 36 others in a military operation in North Sinai, spokesman of the Egyptian Armed Forces Col. Ahmad Ali said Saturday.

“The operation targeted ‘”’takfiri”'’ persons (Islamist militants accusing other Muslims of blasphemy) belonging to the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood Group,” he said.

Pakistan: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) extends ceasefire till April 10

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Friday extended the ceasefire until April 10, the group’s spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said in a statement, adding that the Taliban Shura would be meeting after the 10th to decide a future course of action.

The extension comes a day after the interior ministry announced that it had released 19 non-combatant Taliban as a goodwill gesture for bolstering the peace process with the TTP.

Burma-Myanmar: A series of battles fought between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Government troops

KIA’s 9th Battalion troops on Tuesday fought against Burmese army’s 145th Light Infantry Regiment (LIR) troops at Mung Li Man Hkun in Kutkai Township at about 1 pm, said a KIA source.

On the same day, KIA’s 36th Battalion troops engage in a heavy battle against Burmese army’s 568th LIR troops at Bang Ya Yung village in northern Shan State at about 12:30 pm. No casualties have been reported on either side during the battle that lasted for an hour.

Yemen: Militants attack army headquarters in Aden, 6 soldiers killed

At least six Yemeni soldiers and three militants died in a raid on a major army headquarters in Aden on Wednesday, medics and local media said.

State news agency Saba quoted a security source in the city as saying al Qaeda militants tried to storm the army’s Fourth Division headquarters in Aden’s al-Tawahi district after detonating a car laden with explosives outside the main gate.

Colombia: National Liberation Army (ELN) rebels recruit girls

The National Liberation Army (ELN), Colombia’s second-biggest guerrilla group, is recruiting girls to charge extortion payments from illegal miners and is giving them weapons, El Tiempo newspaper has reported.

The newspaper said that in a rebel video, which the Colombian army says it seized during a raid on an ELN jungle camp last January, around 15 girls aged 13 to 17 are shown holding AK-47 assault rifles and M-60 machine guns. They are dressed in camouflage uniforms with ELN insignia.
