Burma-Myanmar: Burmese troops and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) repeatedly clash in southern Kachin state

Fighting between government forces and troops form the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) took place nearly every day last week in the Manwing area of southern Kachin state. The fighting began shortly after a military column entered into an area controlled by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the KIO’s armed wing.

Clashes between the Burma army’s Light Infantry Division No. 88 and resistance forces from KIA battalion 27 took place at Gaw Ngu Yang near Nam Hka village, said local resident Maran Bawk who witnessed heavy gun fire on Tuesday, June 17th.

Ukraine: Separatists agree to ceasefire

Ukraine’s new Western-backed president faces pressure to negotiate with top rebel commanders after a surprise turnabout in which the pro-Russian insurgents agreed to a truce and talks on ending their uprising.

In an unexpected announcement that came after talks with Russia’s ambassador to Kiev and an OSCE envoy, the head of the self-declared Donetsk People’s Republic on Monday said he was dropping his demand for an immediate Ukrainian troop withdrawal.

Iraq: Iraqi soldiers recapture 2 border crossings from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants

Iraqi security forces have retaken control of two border crossings in their latest battles against Takfiri militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Troops recaptured the Trebil border crossing with Jordan and al-Waleed crossing on the border with Syria on Monday.

Yemen: 17 policemen wounded in an ambush during clashes between Shiite Houthi rebels and government forces

Some 17 Yemeni policemen were wounded in an ambush by Shiite Huthi rebels as fighting between government forces and the rebels neared the capital, officials said on Sunday.

The Houthis — also known as Ansarullah — have been pushing out of their northern mountain strongholds towards Sanaa in a suspected bid to expand their sphere of influence as Yemen is reorganised into six regions.

Iraq: Islamic Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) militants seize Rawa town

Islamic State of Iraq militants have seized Rawa town, along Euphrates River, almost 275 km at northwest of Baghdad.

Mayor referred it, Hussein AIi al-Aujail, adding that local army and police forces gone away when militants have taken control of the town.
