An Iraqi army airstrike in the militant-held northern city of Mosul on Wednesday, Aug 6, killed 60 fighters from the extremists Islamic State group, the Iraqi state television reported, according to the Associated Press.
The report said the dawn strike targeted a downtown prison that was being used by Islamic State members as a religious court and detention facility.

At least 30 suspected militants were killed and six of their hideouts destroyed in fresh air strikes carried out by fighter jets in Datta Khel, Marsikhel, and Kamsham areas of North Waziristan tribal region, the ISPR sources said.
However, these claims could not be independently verified as journalists have limited access to the restive tribal agency.

Fighting in eastern Ukraine reached the main rebel stronghold of Donetsk on Tuesday as separatists and government troops exchanged rocket fire in neighborhoods on the edge of the city.
In a western district of Donetsk, rockets apparently fired from a government position landed in the courtyard of a one-story house, killing an elderly resident.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Monday ordered the airforce to provide support to Kurdish Peshmerga forces battling jihadists in the north of the country, army spokesman Qassem Atta said.
“The commander in chief of the armed forces has issued orders to the leadership of the airforce and the army’s aviation units to provide air support to Peshmerge forces,” he said in a statement.
