Al-Qaeda militants kidnapped 14 Yemeni soldiers returning home by bus from duty in eastern Yemen yesterday and executed them in what officials said was an apparent act of revenge for a recent army crackdown in the area.
The Yemeni army has recently sent extra troops to the Wadi Hadramout region in northeastern Yemen to confront attempts by al-Qaeda’s local affiliate, Ansar al Sharia, to declare an Islamic emirate in the main regional city of Seiyoun.

On Friday the Chief of Staff to the President of Iraqi Kurdistan, Dr. Fuad Hussein, said that 150 Kurdish Peshmerga soldiers were killed and 500 were wounded in battles with the terrorist organization the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, ISIL.
Dr. Hussein said in a joint press conference in Erbil, with Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, attended by IraqiNews.com that “Peshmerga forces provided 150 martyrs during the battles fought by the organization with Daash (also known as ISIL)” and added that “the number of the wounded from the Peshmerga during those battles reached 500.”

Five Palestinians have died after the Israeli military resumed strikes on targets “across the Gaza strip”, in response to Hamas rocket fire as a 72-hour ceasefire expired this morning.
Three of those who died were children, Palestinian officials said. Two Israelis were wounded by rocket fire, according to police.

Jihadists from the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS or ISIL) have seized parts of a military base in Syria’s Raqa province in an assault that left dozens dead, a rights group said Thursday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the extremist group, which calls itself the Islamic State, was engaged in heavy fighting with troops at Brigade 93 in Raqa, where it already controls the regional capital and significant amounts of territory.

Jihadists took over Iraq’s largest Christian town Qaraqosh and surrounding areas Thursday and sent tens of thousands of panicked residents fleeing towards autonomous Kurdistan, officials and witnesses said.
Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) militants moved in overnight after the withdrawal of Kurdish peshmerga troops, who are stretched thin across several fronts in Iraq, residents said.
