Syria: Al-Nusra Front rebels with their allies and Syrian forces clashed near Golan Heights
Islamist rebels clashed Monday with Syrian government forces in the province of Quneitra, close by the Israeli- controlled Golan Heights, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The observatory said in a statement that fighting continued throughout the day between Syrian army units and insurgents including the al-Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda affiliated group.
Fierce battles were reported from a border post on the edge of the Golan, while Syrian warplanes bombed the already demolished city of al-Quneitra.
Al-Nusra Front fighters and their allies attacked Syrian troops in the area and there were reports of casualties on both sides, the observatory said.
