Rising tensions between the Burma Army and rebel groups in eastern Burma sparked another incident on Friday, when Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) fighters detained eight soldiers and police officers, and injured two soldiers in an exchange of fire.
As of Friday evening, a DKBA commander said his troops were still detaining the soldiers and officers in central Mon State’s Kyaikmayaw Township, and negotiations over their release were ongoing.

Forces with links to Iran and Hezbollah, a Shi’ite Lebanese militia, are supporting Houthi rebels to boost their control of Yemen’s capital Sana’a, intelligence sources told Asharq Al-Awsat.
“Elements affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah, who were training Houthis in the north of Yemen, are currently present in the capital Sana’a,” an intelligence source who requested anonymity because he was not permitted to brief the media told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Islamic State militants are advancing on the Syrian town of Kobane, where they are battling Kurdish fighters.
The clashes are visible from Turkey, where some protesters have stormed a border fence to go to defend the town.

South Sudan army said it has deployed battalion of troops along it border with Sudan following repeated rebels raids on its territory.
The move, army spokesperson Col. Philip Aguer said, comes in awake of a series of attacks by rebels who allegedly plan and execute their activities from its northern neighbor.

Over 700 Taliban fighters are attacking Afghan military posts with the aim of taking and holding ground.
Hundreds of Taliban fighters have stormed a strategic district in an Afghan province southwest of the capital and are on the verge of capturing it after killing dozens of people and beheading some in days of fighting, officials said on Friday.
