Syria: Syrian planes and helicopters drop barrel bombs on Islamic State-held areas killing 40 civilians
Syrian planes and helicopters have reportedly dropped improvised barrel bombs on Islamic State-held areas in the north-east, which activists say killed at least 40 civilians.
The air raids coincide with more than 30 air strikes by the US-led Combined Joint Task Force against Islamic State (IS) group targets in Iraq and Syria.
Monitoring organisation the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there had been an increase in air raids by the Syrian military across rebel-held areas in the last three days.
