Somali Islamist militants al-Shabaab attacked the main African Union peacekeeping base in the capital Mogadishu on Thursday, killing 14 people, a spokesman for the group said.
There were conflicting reports about how many have died in the attack which has now lasted for several hours.

In a late night operation, Algeria’s army killed the leader of an Islamic State splinter group blamed for the kidnapping and beheading of a French hiker, the Ministry of Defense said Tuesday.
It took three months for about 3,000 Algerian soldiers to comb the mountainous Kabylie region that has long been a hotbed for militant groups, but in the end they caught up with Abdelmalek Gouri.

Jordanian Royal Air Force pilot was captured by the Islamic State (IS) Wednesday after his warplane went down in northeastern Syria, the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) said in a statement.
Images of the arrest of Lieutenant Muath Kasasbeh, 27, from Karak Governorate, appeared on social media after his capture by the IS terrorists as the government pledged to continue war on terrorism in defending Islam.

The Songbijit Brahma faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) on Tuesday killed 49 people, several of them women and children, in an almost simultaneous attack on Adivasi settlers in four locations spread in two districts of Assam-Kokrajhar and Sonitpur. The attacks, all believed to have been carried out with AK-series weapons, took place between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm, according to police sources.

More than 130 militants have been killed and injured in the mountainous Dangam district of the eastern Kunar province over the past 24 hours as clash goes on in the area, an army spokesman in the province said Tuesday.
“A total of 136 insurgents have been killed and injured in Dangam district over the past 24 hours,” spokesman of Army Corps 201 Sylab, Harron Yousufzai, told Xinhua.
