Democratic Republic of the Congo: UN and DR Congo soldiers capture several National Liberation Forces (FNL) rebel bases near Burundi
The United Nations and Democratic Republic of the Congo have captured several rebel bases in an offensive against Burundi rebel movement, the National Liberation Forces (FNL), the UN says.
The forces carried out joint operations against FNL rebels east of the country on Monday and managed to seize several Hutu rebel strongholds, a UN spokesman in DR Congo said.
The seized bases were located near the Burundi border in South Kivu, Lieutenant Colonel Felix-Prosper Basse added.
Attacks on Burundi’s border region in the past have been claimed by a splinter faction of the National Liberation Forces, whose full name is Party for the Liberation of the Hutu People.
