Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), the African branch of the lethal terrorist group, warned France on Monday to expect new attacks over its “hostility to Islam”, and praised jihadists behind last week’s Paris attacks.
“France is paying today the price of its aggression against Muslims and its hostile policy towards Islam,” AQIM said in a statement posted on jihadist websites and quoted by AFP.

The Cameroonian army killed 143 Boko Haram fighters who attacked a military base in the northern town of Kolofata on Monday, the government said, adding that one soldier had also died in the clashes.
The toll was “the heaviest loss yet” suffered by the Nigeria-based Boko Haram group on Cameroonian soil, Communications Minister and government spokesman Issa Tchiroma Bakary said in a statement read out on television and radio.

Anti-insurgency measures by security forces have led to the arrest of 39 militants belonging to the banned organisation National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit faction) and 8 linkmen in Assam.
Security forces have come down especially hard on the separatist militants since the massacre in December, in which members of the NDFB(S) opened fire on innocent villagers in the Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam, leaving over 80 people killed.

In an attack on the town of Gwer in the early hours of Saturday by the Islamic State (ISIS) 24 members of the local Kurdish security forces were killed, officials said.
Military officials said that ISIS militants attacked the Kurdish positions from nine fronts which led to several hours of intense fighting with the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
