Unidentified gunmen killed a Somali soldier and injured another late Wednesday in an attack on a military base in the northeastern, semi-autonomous region of Puntland, local residents said Thursday.
According to the residents, a group of militants attacked a base of Puntland troops in Bosaso in the late hours of Wednesday, leaving one soldier dead and another wounded.

Fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have launched a series of attacks in Iraq’s restive region, killing dozens of people, including several Kurdish Peshmerga soldiers.
Sources told Al Jazeera that at least 16 Peshmerga soldiers were killed on Thursday trying to repel an ISIL attack on the Mosul Dam in Nineveh province.

Military sources have confirmed the death of over 40 terrorists in Daraa countryside during today’s military operations.
The sources clarified that 15 terrorist were killed and an arms depot belonging to them was destroyed in al-Sheikh Meskin town outside Daraa.

Egyptian security forces have killed seven militants during separate operations in the violence-plagued Sinai Peninsula of the North African country.
The terrorists have been killed in shootouts with police officers over the past few days. During the raids, security forces destroyed 68 hideouts, including 22 houses and 46 huts, used by militants to carry out terrorist attacks against the personnel of the police and army, MENA news agency reported.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) announced on Monday evening that it managed to take back al-Qneziah and Oanagarto areas in South Kordofan from the hands of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) and flushed out Sudan Liberation Army of Minni Minnawi (SLA-MM) from Abu-Liha and Abu-Qamra regions in North Darfur.
