Ukraine: Donetsk militants say they will have army of 100,000 men

“A general mobilization is planned in the DNR in 10 days. Ten thousand men will be called up,” Zakharchenko said.

He said the joint army of the Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples’ Republics militant organization would number 100,000. He did not say how many men the militant organizations current field against Ukrainian forces.

Nigeria: Boko Haram fighters launch fresh assault on Maiduguri

Boko Haram fighters on Sunday launched a fresh attempt to take over the strategically crucial northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, Borno State, just two weeks before the general election.

Four residents told AFP that Sunday’s fighting began at roughly 3:00am (0200 GMT) with loud explosions and gunfire, as the insurgents tried to enter the city from the south.

Battles rage in Kachin and northern Shan State between Kachin Independence Army and Burmese Army despite ongoing ceasefire talks between Ethnic Armed Organizations’ Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team and officials from Myanmar Peace Center and Union Peace-making Work Committee.

KIA troops have fought a series of battles with Burmese Army troops in Hsenwi Township (Theinni in Burmese), Kut Kai Township, Muse Township, and Nam Hkam Township in northern Shan State on Thursday, Jan 29.

Afghanistan: 32 rebels killed in nationwide military offensives

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in a media statement issued on Saturday said that security forces conducted military offensives in Laghman, Kunduz, Faryab, Uruzgan, Paktika and Helmand provinces.

The statement added that security forces killed 32 insurgents, wounded 11 and arrested 12 others.
