Burma-Myanmar: Burmese army kill over 100 civilians in Laukai

Local sources said over 100 civilians have been killed this week by Burmese army’s 33rd Light Infantry Division (LID) soldiers in Laukai. Ordinary civilians were being shot indiscriminately by Burmese soldiers during a three-day period of shooting rampage in the Laukai street on Feb 14-17.

Kokang Armed Group, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army’s (MNDAA) spokesman Htun Myat Linn said the youngest person being executed by Burmese army was as young as 11 years old and the oldest was over 80 years old.

Nigeria: Nigerian troops recapture Baga the town of Baga from Boko Haram

Nigeria’s military on Saturday claimed to have recaptured the town of Baga from Boko Haram, more than a month after it was overrun in what is feared to be the worst massacre of its six-year insurgency.

Defence spokesman Chris Olukolade claimed that “a large number of terrorists” drowned in Lake Chad as they tried to flee bombardment from air force jets.

Syria: Jabhat al-Nusra rebels recaptured key towns in Aleppo province

Syrian rebels have recaptured key towns in the northern Aleppo countryside after intense battles with government forces, rebels and activists have told Al Jazeera.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jabhat al-Nusra said on Saturday they had recaptured Hardatnin town in the northern Aleppo countryside after five days of fighting with government forces.

The group said government forces had been supported by Hezbollah and Iranian fighters.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab claims responsibility for attack on Central hotel in Mogadishu that killed 20 people

An attack on a luxury hotel in Somalia’s capital killed twenty people, including two legislators, and stoked fears that the Al-Qaeda linked militants can access into sensitive locations in the city, officials told HOL.

Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the Central hotel attack on Friday, often frequented by government officials and politicians.
