Shelling suddenly stopped at midnight local time in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk after President Petro Poroshenko gave the order to government forces to halt firing in line with a ceasefire agreement reached
last Thursday.
The military Saturday repelled an attack on Gombe by Boko Haram who, as they retreated, warned residents not to participate in the country’s elections in March.
Scores of the rebels assaulted Gombe in the morning and engaged in heavy fighting with the army. Two air force jets also attacked the rebels.

Officials said the fighters crossed Lake Chad by motorboat and attacked a village on the shores of the lake.
